Fight Club

I'd like to start off by saying I'm a die hard Chuck Palahniuk fan. The man is a literary genius. I could just sit snuggled up on the couch reading his books all day long. That aside, Palahniuk love runs in my family. My brother is also a huge fan of his and Fight Club is his favorite movie and book. My brother is also far more artistic than me. He can draw like no one I've ever seen. I can never get over how unbelievably talented he is. SO, I totally had to go all out and make him something amazing for his 20th birthday this past weekend.

Behold: The Fight Club Art Piece.
My boyfriend and I collectively joined forces to create the art piece my mind had some how decided to show me. And it was a giant success! I'm always hesitant to pursue artistic endeavors outside of photography. I'm an extreme perfectionist, and if it doesn't look exactly the way I envisioned it, it might as well be trash. Forunately, this wasn't the case with this canvas endeavor.

Yes, that's pages from Fight Club the novel.
Yes, that's spray painted faces of Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.
Yes, that's an original quote from both the film and the book.

And yes, this IS the greatest thing you've ever seen.

Needless to say I'm extremely proud of what I've accomplished with this thing. I'll be selling them on Etsy hopefully soon as I've finished a few more. If you're interested, they'll be $100 each. The canvas is 18 x 24 inches and if you have a personal favorite quote, I can absolutely do that one on it instead. If you know you want one and would like to reserve it, e-mail me at kaelynephotography@gmail.com. Shipping is available at an additional price.

Enjoy!

Spring

Isn't it wonderful that spring is around the corner? It's such a relief to know that the sun will be coming out from hiding soon. So, these last few days I've noticed flowers in my yard that I feel like I've never even seen before! (Okay, I saw the daffodils last year). So I've taken a few photos for you all to enjoy.

Aren't those green flowers so cool?! I'm in love with them! ♥

New Shoot Addition

I've been working on updating my marketing materials and altering certain ways I run and operate my business these last few weeks. One thing I had wanted to do, was add a new shoot called "Baby's First Year". This new shoot includes 6, 30 minute mini sessions, that all combined document the entire first year of your baby's life (and all of the growing they do). It costs $350 and includes everything that the other shoots do (A flash drive, editing, all edited and original photographs with full printing rights). It's an awesome addition to the collection of shoots I do, and I hope you're as excited as I am to see it included.

PS: I'll be launching an April contest to win a free 30 minute mini session! So keep your eyes on my blog for your chance to win!

Maternity: Stephanie and Brody

One of the greatest things you can incorporate into your photo shoots is props. A great prop can turn a basic, but lovely, shoot into something extraordinary. One of the cheapest but photo polishing props is balloons. I love balloons. Latex balloons cost a dollar each and come in a gazillion colors. I was lucky enough to have clients this past week that loved balloons as much as I did. It's so nice to see excited moms who are just brimming with anticipation to meet their babies. Stephanie was no exception, she was beaming from the inside out. And no wonder! She had the best cheerleader, her boyfriend Brody, rooting from the sidelines. I don't think I've heard so many sweet sentiments in an hour in my entire life. This baby is obviously never going to be lacking in the love department. Congratulations Stephanie and Brody! I can't wait for you to meet your son!

Portrait: Laura + Casey

Alright, confession time. I have a serious Glee problem. My body does NOT move from the couch Tuesdays from 8pm-9pm. It just will not happen. I am obsessed to the Nth degree. Not to mention one of my favorite characters is Emma Pillsbury, played by Jayma Mays. She is just completely adorable with all that quirky, awkwardness and charm. So when I stumbled across the existence of the beauty that is Laura. I just could not help myself. Not only does she look unbelievably similar, but she is just as quirky, cute and charming (Just without all that crazy OCD stuff - Thank goodness! Emma would have not tolerated the mud we encountered).

Not only that! But she brought along her roommate and friend, Casey, who I had gone to high school with! Having a mutual friend is always absolutely, fabulous at eliminating any kind of nervousness. Shooting these two cutie pies was tons of fun. Finding abandoned cars with no seats, running around in the mud while being scared by people doing donuts in a nearby lot, these girls handled it all like professionals. I couldn't have had a better time.

I hope you enjoy their photos as much as I do.

Portrait: Jasper

I hate when the weather is wrong. Especially when it's ALWAYS wrong. These past couple weeks or so have been like that, and to say it's irritating would be an understatement. The weather channel informed me that it wasn't supposed to rain all day in the Eugene/Springfield area until 5pm (YAY). Not. As Jasper and I pulled into Dorris Ranch, it was pouring. pouring. pouring. But after some deep contemplation for a couple minutes, it wore off a tad and we were left with some sprinkling that could be dealt with. The longer we shot, the nicer it got (Thank goodness!) and I was able to get some sweet photos of Jasper's super sick new tattoo. Jasper also has the coolest colored eyes. They're like slate grey. Plus, I couldn't get enough of her many pairs of oxfords.

Portrait: Lara

If there's anything I'm 100% certain about, it's that my friend, Lara, needs to desperately be on America's Next Top Model. She could wear zero make-up, while the rest of us are all dolled up, and still manage to be the prettiest girl in the room. The best part about her too, is that she's completely oblivious to all of it. What's better than a breathtakingly, humble girl who will make you laugh so hard you might puke? Nothing. I adore Lara, and I hope you adore seeing her enjoying the only sun I saw practically all week.
